Emberwild Oath

★★★★★ 4.5 Editor rating

Emberwild Oath is a proper role-playing game that didn't try to drain my wallet to progress. You build a party of four, each with a clear role, and the turn-based battles ask you to read enemy patterns instead of just mashing attack.

The writing caught me off guard. Side characters have small arcs that actually pay off, and the main quest avoids the usual chosen-one cliché for most of its length. I cared about where my team ended up.

On a phone the combat UI is well laid out, with big tap targets and a clean turn order display. Grinding exists but stays optional if you play your skill combos well.
