Maze building 101 for tower defence newcomers

Maze building 101 for tower defence newcomers

New tower defence players almost always overspend on fancy towers and ignore the geometry of the map. The hard truth is that layout wins more games than firepower.

The core idea of a maze is simple: force enemies to walk past your towers for as long as possible. Every extra second they spend in range is extra damage you didn't have to pay for.

On open maps, build walls to create a long S-shaped path. On fixed-path maps, concentrate your damage at the corners, because that's where enemies cluster and slow down.

Don't forget range overlap. Two cheap towers whose circles cover the same chokepoint usually beat one expensive tower sitting alone. I learned this the hard way losing the same wave four times.

Start thinking about the path before you place a single tower and your win rate jumps immediately. It's the habit that separates people who bounce off the genre from the ones who stay.
